Special Directions for Short Season Climates
SOWING: Start seed early indoors or seed directly outdoors from early to mid spring. Sow again in late summer for fall crop. Cover with 1/8 inch fine soil.
THINNING: When seedling plants are established, thin to 10 or 12 inches apart. Replant thinned seedlings.
TRANSPLANTING: Seedlings started indoors can be planted outside after hardening off and danger of severe frost has passed.
SPACING: Leave 15 to 18 inches between rows. For intensified gardening, space 10 to 12 inches apart in all directions.
GERMINATION: Approximately 1 week to 10 days. Seed germinates best in cool 55 to 60-degree weather.
