It blooms in clusters of pompom like flowers of blue, red, pink and white. It is somewhat earlier blooming than taller aster varieties and requires no staking. It works well in the foreground of beds and borders, massed or combined with other summer flowering annuals. Special Directions for Short Season Climates SOWING: Start seeds indoors in mid-spring for planting outside in late spring (6 weeks inside). Or plant outdoors after all danger of frost. Cover seeds with 1/2 inch fine soil. THINNING AND TRANSPLANTING: When 2 to 3 inches high, thin to 8 to 10 inches apart. Transplant thinned plants. GERMINATION: 8 to 14 days in 70 degree temperatures. Keep soil moderately moist during germination. Ed's Special Advice Plants prefer a mostly sunny spot with fairly rich well drained soil. Keep soil moderately moist throughout growing season. Harvest cut flowers and remove any spent blooms to help prolong blooming season. Rotate planting site yearly to prevent plant diseases.
