CARROT Solar Yellow A colorful addition to relish trays or the dinner plate. Its roots are completely yellow, with a crunchy texture and sweet juicy flavor. Harvest young finger sized when eating raw. Older 6 to 7 inch long roots are best eaten cooked. Approximately 72 days to maturity. Special Directions for Short Season Climates SOWING: : Seed directly into the vegetable garden from as soon as soil is workable in early spring through mid summer. Cover seed with 1/8 inch fine soil well firmed down. SPACING: Rows can be 12 to 18 inches apart or closer if limited for space. Can be planted in wide rows 2 to 3 inches apart in all directions. THINNING: When plants are 2 to 4 inches tall thin to 2 inches apart. GERMINATION: 2 weeks in temperatures of 60 degrees. Keep soil moderately moist during germination. Ed's Special Advice Plant at 2 or 3 week intervals for continual harvest. Planting can continue until mid-July. Carrots grow best in a sunny location with rich light soil and regular thorough waterings. For best results, fertilize and cultivate soil prior to planting to a depth of 12 inches.
