DWARF COLOMBINE Biedermeier Mixture Perennial - Permanent Plant - Height 10 to 14 inches A distinctive dwarf variety of columbine, ideal for the partially shaded rock garden or towards the fron of beds and borders. It combines well with other compact flowering plants in containers, as well. Special Directions for Short Season Climates SOWING: Seed outdoors April to July. Seed indoors in February or March for earlier plants. Barely cover seeds with fine soil. Needs light to germinate properly. Firm seeds into soil with back of hand. THINNING AND TRANSPLANTING: When plants are 2 to 4 inches high, thin and transplant to 12 to 18 inches apart. GERMINATION: Takes up to 30 days, depending upon soil and weather. Keep seeds moderately moist throughout germination period. Ed's Special Advice Colombine prefers a partially-shaded location with well-drained soil. Leave seed pods on plants to reseed or remove to prolong blooming. Pre-chill seeds for one or two weeks in refrigerator prior to sowing. Sow seeds in July for blossoms the following year. Seeds sown in earliest spring may bloom the first year.
