ROMANO BEANS Roma II (Bush)
Its wide, light green, smooth flat pods are borne at the top of upright, bush plants for easy picking. Roma II's flavorful pods are slow to develop fiber and seeds, which gives its pods better texture, longer than other romano beans. Approximately 59 days to maturity.
Special Directions for Short Season Climates
SOWING: Sow seeds after all danger of frost has passed and soil temperature has warmed to 50 degrees or more. Sow seeds on their side, covering them with 1 to 1 1/2 inches of fine soil firmed down.
SPACING: Plant seeds 2 inches apart in rows 2 feet apart. If limited for space, plant seeds in wide rows 4 to 6 inches apart in all directions.
THINNING: Thin plants to 4 to 6 inches apart when about 4 inches tall.
GERMINATION: 1 to 2 weeks depending upon weather and soil conditions. Keep soil moderately moist during germination.
Ed's Special Advice
Grows best in a sunny location with rich well drained soil. For a continuous supply of fresh beans, sow successive crops at 1 to 2 week intervals through early summer. Snip ends from beans prior to cooking. Its distinctive romano flavor can be enjoyed in any green bean recipe.
