BASIL Purple Ruffles Annual - One Season Plant - Height 12 to 18 inches An All-American Award Winner prized for its ornamental value as well as being a delectable herb. Its leaves are a glossy dark purple, sometimes with splashes of green on its fringed ruffled leaves. Leaves are very aromatic and can be used fresh or dried in a wide variety of ethnic recipes. Approximately 85 days to maturity. Special Directions for Short Season Climates SOWING: Sow seeds outdoors after danger of frost has passed, or start seeds indoors in flats or pots. Cover seed with 1/8 inch fine soil. SPACING: Leave about 12 to 18 inches between rows or use in group plantings. THINNING AND TRANSPLANTING: Thin or transplant seedlings when about 2 inches tall, to 8 to 10 inches apart. Transplant indoor started seedlings after danger of frost has passed. GERMINATION: 2 to 3 weeks depending upon weather and soil conditions. Keep soil moderately moist during germination.
